A brilliant day of hillclimbing under blue skies at Yorkshire's premier hillclimb. 5 Class records were broken, Personal Bests reset and plenty of sideways motoring enjoyed by a large crowd. FTD in the Vintage field went to James Baxter in his Riley-ERA special whilst in the Classics David Tatham in the thunderous McLaren M12C/6A Chevvie V8 broke the class record en route to FTD. There were a couple of new classses where Class Records were established In the Longton & District Moror Club class Jon Salthouse broke his own PB twice en route to the class win and new record in his Porsche Boxter whilst in the 'new' Morgan 3 Wheeler class Danny Hodgson & Bronte Pearson in their Morgan F2 took the win on their first visit to Harewood. The best class battle of the day was a family affair, James Blakeney-Edwards was a late switch as his Austin 7 wasn't ready so shared his father's Frazer Nash Super Sports for the first time in V3. James led after the first run and broke the record on his second. Then on the third run he failed to improve and Patrick swept in as he flung the FN up hill to a new record relegating James to second. Another Frazer Nash star was young Theo Hunt in V10. He twice lowered the class record with his Frazer Nash TT Replica. In V13 Adam Forster led throughout in the Boltby Bolt (a rather eccentric Austin 7 Special built in the village of Boltby near Thirsk). Forster's 750cc projectile got the better of Mark Purnell's superchraged Riley in their David & Goliath struggle.
I can't wait for next year's Classic & Vintage as there are a lot of new cars scheduled to appear just so long as their constructors don't get sidetracked!
